The Gift of the Grain
Watercolour on paper, 2015

Celebrating Lammas
With oats, barley, red poppy and cornflower

Lammas is the Celtic festival for the first harvest, celebrated in early August. The radiance of summer carries edges of autumn and despite many weeks of green remaining, the abundance of ripening seeds invite us to start gathering in towards the darker months.

Red poppy symbolises the blood of life. Grasses and grains are woven with gratitude for the harvest of foods, herbs and experiences within this year's cycle of growth.

Some little seeds we keep through the winter as blessings to be sown next year.
